The
area lying along the wide Považské podolie lowlands including also
Karpaty mountains. It is rich in mineral and thermal wells. The dominant
ones are the wells with the temperature almost 70oC on
Kúpeľný ostrov island in Piešťany. Together with healing mud they
create the basis for healing procedures well known already in the
16-th century. Moravianska venuša, a famous statue engraved into a
mamoth tusk, 7.6 cm high was discovered in the nearby village Moravany
nad Váhom in 1926. It is the oldest artefact in Slovakia from the
Paleolithic. The economic, cultural and historical centre of this
area is Trenčín. There used to be the most northern military settlement
in the central Europe in this town - Laugarício. Unique turrical cliffs
of Vršatecké skaly, rock towns in Súľovské vrchy hills, picturesque
Manínska tiesňava are the most inetersting relics.
