The area lying along the wide Považské podolie lowlands including also Karpaty mountains. It is rich in mineral and thermal wells. The dominant ones are the wells with the temperature almost 70oC on Kúpeľný ostrov island in Piešťany. Together with healing mud they create the basis for healing procedures well known already in the 16-th century. Moravianska venuša, a famous statue engraved into a mamoth tusk, 7.6 cm high was discovered in the nearby village Moravany nad Váhom in 1926. It is the oldest artefact in Slovakia from the Paleolithic. The economic, cultural and historical centre of this area is Trenčín. There used to be the most northern military settlement in the central Europe in this town - Laugarício. Unique turrical cliffs of Vršatecké skaly, rock towns in Súľovské vrchy hills, picturesque Manínska tiesňava are the most inetersting relics.

Piešťany ( Well known bath town where diseases of motional system are cured. The town started to be built in the 12-th century already. In the 18-th and the 19-th century there was the biggest development of the baths. After building Považská railway in 1876 Piešťany became an economic centre. There are many exotic kinds of trees and plants, thermal lakes with lotus flowers and a thermal swimming pool Eva on the bath island. ) • Moravany nad Váhom ( Moravianska venuša was found here. It is a small statue of a woman engraved into a mamoth tusk approximately from 23,000 B.C, found in 1923. ) • Beckov ( The first settlements since the Age of Bronze. The ruins of the Beckov castle on a steep calcite cliff 60m above the village. ) • Horná Streda ( A burial ground from the period of the Great Moravian Empire. The flood in 1813 destroyed the whole village. ) • BrunovcePotvoricePovažanyNové Mesto and Váhom ( An industrial town in the nothern part of Podunajská nížina lowlands near the foothill of Malé Karpaty. ) • Trenčianske Bohuslavice Trenčín ( A district town, economic, historical and a cultural centre in Trenčianska kotlina valley. Several battles destroyed the town. Above the town Trenčiansky hrad castle ( Partly preserved large castle on a steep cliff. At the end of the 13-th century it became the estate of Matúš Čák who reigned over large countries and became "the master of Váh and Tatry." ) • Trenčianska Teplá ( It used to belong to the estate of Trenčiansky hrad in the Medieval times. In the 17-th century well known area for growing hop. ) • Trenčianske Teplice ( A bath town came into being near warm wells which are mentioned fot the first time in 1379. In the 19-th century the baths became known worldwide. The diseases of motional and nuerologic system are cured here. An interesting object is a bath house Haman built in the oriental style. ) • Nová Dubnica ( An original town came into being as a settlement for the workers of a machine factory. ) • Dubnica nad Váhom ( In 1930 a machine plant of a military machinery started to be built here where in 1939 the guns for German army were produced. ) • Ilava ( The town developed near the castle Ilava, well known in the 14-th century. An original Gothic castle was rebuilt into a Renaissance fortification against Turks in the 16-th century. After 1856 the building was changed into a prison and is still used for this purpose. ) • PruskéVršatecké Podhradie KošecaLadce ( There is a cement plant built in 1911. In 1936 the first water power plant on the river Váh was built here. ) • Beluša ( In the past well known for its products made of sticks. There is a metal foundry nowadays. ) • Púchov ( A district town near theVáh river between Biele Karpaty and Javorníky mountains in the valley of Biela voda. ) • Nimnica ( A bath town, a mineral well found while building a reservoir in 1952. The diseases of respiratory organs, digestive system and problems with metabolism are cured here. ) • Považská Bystrica ( The centre of machine industry. There was a big earthquake in 1858. In 1928 machine plants for producing weapons started to be built here, in 1945 changed into Považské závody. ) • Považská Teplá ( The starting point for trips to Manínska tiesňava and Kostolecká tiesňava made by a stream Manínsky potok in Mesozoic calcites. ) • PlevníkDrieňovéPredmier ( The village is mentioned for the first time in 1193. It is one of the oldest villages in Považie. ) • Bytča ( A town in the Bytčianska kotlina valley. It was mentioned for the first time in 1250. It developed as a surfish town near a water castle. There is a water power station in the Mikšová part. ) • Dolný HričovHorný Hričov ( Agricultural villages, mentioned for the first time in 1208. The inhabitants were mainly tinkers, grew vegetables and hop or worked in forests. The water power station started to work in 1962. ) • Žilina ( A provincial town since 1997, an important railway junction. It was given town privileges in 1312. The first organization of Evanjelic church in Slovakia was formed here in 1610. After building the railway line Košice - Bohumín in 1871 the economy of the town started to develop. ) • Lietavská LúčkaLietava ( The village mentioned in 1208 and 1236, a parish house mentioned in 1332. Its inhabitants grew vegetables, bred cattle and kept bees, they were well known for apiculture. ) • Rajecké TepliceKunerad ( A Secession manor house with corner towers, terraces and arcades built in 1916. ) • Hrad Strečno ( Built in the middle of the 14-th century to protect toll which was taken in a foothill. Together with the Starý hrad castle ( on the other side of the river Váh 4km further ) creates a unique couple of Medieval fortifications in Horné Považie. ) • Strečno ( An attractive drifting down the Váh river from the Strečniansky prístav rafting port. ) • Starý hrad ( A castle was originally called Varín. It guarded the Považská route and toll was taken here. It belonged to Matúš Čák Trenčiansky at the end of the 13-th century. )
